GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
FOOD:
1. Consume only freshly prepared cooked food
2. Avoid raw food items like salad and fruits- if needed consume only fruits with thick skin which can be easily peeled off.
3. Patient can take packed juices and carbonated drinks if needed.
4. Roasted nuts and homemade curd are allowed.
5. High intake of proteins is recommended- egg white, meat, proteinux powder, threptin biscuits, soya, paneer are rich in protein
HYGIENE:
1. Daily bath with chlorhexidine scrub or any other soap
2. Change clothes daily including inner wear
3. Chlorhexidine mouth wash after each food intake
4. Sitz bath with warm water- mix with potassium permanganate crystals or betadine solution- 2 times per day
5. Patient’s room has to be cleaned daily
6. Minimum visitors
7. Apply Sterillium hand rub to both hands for at least 30 seconds before touching the patient.
8. Do not go to crowded places
9. Avoid any contact with people with cough, cold and any other infectious condition.
BLOOD AND BLOOD PRODUCTS:
1. Patient is advised to get red blood cell transfusion once Hb falls below 7g/dL
2. Patient is usually given platelet transfusion if there is bleeding, or if platelet count falls below 10,000/- or below 20,000/- in case of fever.
3. Usually blood bank arranges the required units, but occasionally you may be askedl to bring donors.
WHEN TO REPORT BACK TO HOSPITAL:
1. In case of fever, bleeding patient has to report back to hospital immediately.
2. Persistent pain abdomen, repeated vomiting, loose stools or constipation, cough with expectoration, patient has to get medical attention.
